Flood-delayed Lake Cargelligo upgrade set to resume
29 MARCH 2023WaterNSW will resume work to upgrade embankments at Lake Cargelligo to ensure the structures’ long-term function and to meet the needs of the local community and customers.
Preparatory work is planned to start in April, after heavy rains and flooding in the Lachlan Valley delayed the project in mid-2022.
The project will renew the existing structures to improve their resilience to erosion and reduce the risk of water flowing over the top of the embankments.
The work will require the Lake Cargelligo storage to be lowered to 50% of capacity, a process that will take at least four weeks, depending on weather conditions and flow volume down the Lachlan River.
Dam safety specialists are assessing the current condition of the embankments following extensive emergency repair work during the flooding.
These investigations will refine the scope and program of the works. The community will be updated as soon as a program is finalised.
WaterNSW will continue to work closely with the community, landowners, the Aboriginal community and other stakeholders as the project progresses.
