Lake Brewster emergency works to repair inlet channel embankments

14 FEBRUARY 2023

WaterNSW is undertaking emergency works on key areas of the Lake Brewster inlet channel damaged as a result of flooding last year.

Major flooding in November 2022 resulted in significant damage to the lake’s inlet channel embankments, preventing lake inflows (currently at 83% of capacity), and restricting access to infrastructure. Given the need to maximise the lake’s storage capacity, water quality and ecological value, WaterNSW is undertaking emergency works to expediate returning infrastructure to service (noting earlier repairs were not feasible given persistent flooding).

Emergency repair works have commenced, which include restoring access to site infrastructure, performing minor remediation works, and detailed impact assessments. WaterNSW anticipate the works will be complete in mid to late March 2023.  Following these works, WaterNSW will evaluate undertaking more permanent works at a later date.

Given the large pelican population in the lake, WaterNSW is working closely with the Department of Planning and Environment’s Environment and Heritage Group and the Lachlan Environmental Water Advisory Group (EWAG), comprised of government organisations and interested community members.

WaterNSW will continue to update the community as these works progress.
