Major spill event prompts closure of Brogo Dam to public
30 NOVEMBER 2023Brogo Dam will be closed to the public as a safety precaution until further notice as the storage continues to spill in high volumes after recent heavy rainfall.
The dam exceeded capacity and commenced spilling at 10am Wednesday (29 November) before reaching a peak spill rate of 17 gigalitres per day (17 GL/day) by Wednesday afternoon.
The dam was continuing to spill at a rate of 12 GL/day this morning (Thursday 30 November) and was receiving inflows at a rate 8.5 GL/day.
With the likelihood the spill will continue for a number of days WaterNSW has determined that the conditions pose an unacceptable risk to recreational users.
