Menindee Lakes operating safely during power outage

21 OCTOBER 2024

WaterNSW has reassured its customers and the community that the Menindee Lakes system is continuing to operate safely during the current power outage that is affecting Far West New South Wales.

“Our operational staff are putting in place contingency plans so that we can continue to safely operate the Menindee Lakes system to supply customers and protect water supply infrastructure,” WaterNSW’s Executive Manager Operations, Ronan Magaharan, said.

“Back-up generators are available to provide power needed to operate weir gates, for those that are not operated manually.

“Customers may notice interruptions to some river gauging data in the area due to the Telstra network also being down.

“Our thoughts are with the whole community of Menindee during this difficult time, and people throughout Far West New South Wales affected by the power outage.

“WaterNSW staff are part of the fabric of many regional towns, and the next few weeks will be a difficult time for everyone until power is restored.

“We are supporting our operational staff in Menindee to ensure their well-being during this time,” Mr Magaharan said.
