Tallowa Dam Road re-opens in time for school holidays

2 JULY 2024

Tallowa Dam Road is set to reopen from midday on Friday 5 July ahead of the school holidays, allowing access to Tallowa Dam and nearby recreational areas for the community and visitors.

Repair work, which started in February this year following major landslip damage caused by a heavy rainstorm event in 2022, has now been completed.

WaterNSW Executive Manager Operations Ronan Magaharan said WaterNSW delivered the road repairs as part of the WaterNSW Flood Recovery Program.

“It’s a great outcome that these extensive roadworks have been completed on schedule and in time to re-open the road ahead of the July school holidays,” Mr Magaharan said.

“WaterNSW thanks all those impacted by the road closure for their patience while this essential work was carried out.”

WaterNSW enlisted the services of Construction Contractor Burke Pipe & Civil, to deliver the challenging project after detailed geotechnical investigations during the early stages of work found more extensive excavation requiring a full road closure was essential to rebuild the road.

The road was closed to all vehicles in early April 2024.

Repairs included excavation of the damaged sections of road, installing reinforcement to stabilise the road, filling and compacting, and resurfacing the road.

The repair work has delivered safe and reliable access to Tallowa Dam and nearby recreational areas for river users, visitors and WaterNSW staff.
