Our dams

WaterNSW manage more than 40 dams across NSW

Come and visit one of our dams

With more than 40 dams across NSW, including one of the world’s largest domestic water supply dams – Warragamba Dam – there is a lot to discover about these major water supply dams, and how we safely manage the complex network of dams, storages and pipelines to supply water to our customers.

Each dam has with its own unique and fascinating story, and many have state or local significance and are on the heritage and conservation register.

You can visit with your school, or go with family and friends for an enjoyable day out

Warragamba Dam and the Visitor Centre is open 7 days a week. You can have a picnic, take a stroll and learn about the historical and contemporary features from our interpretative signage, and check out the Visitor Centre, filled with interactive displays, hands-on activities and friendly information officers.

If you come on the weekend or public holiday, take a closer look at Warragamba Dam and Lake Burragorang by walking down to the dam wall and lower viewing areas.

We also deliver excursions and facilitate field trips to Warragamba Dam, and welcome school, tertiary, and related professional groups.

For people outside of Greater Sydney there are lots of visitor options too.

Carcoar Dam, for example, is a popular inland sport and recreation destination in Central West NSW, offering year-round attractions for water sports and fishing enthusiasts, nature lovers, campers, and picnickers.
