WaterInsights – data made faster and easier

Practical information for water users

WaterInsights – our water data tool – is now faster and more up-to-date, with practical information for farmers and irrigators as well as general users interested in all kinds of information about how water is stored, used and traded.

“We’ve listened to feedback from our customers and stakeholders and believe people will be pleasantly surprised by the improvements we’ve made in WaterInsights,” WaterNSW Chief Information Officer, Ian Robinson, said.

“It’s part of our ongoing commitment to digital transformation and modernising our systems and processes, to make life easier and simpler for our customers.

“We encourage you to become familiar with WaterInsights. We’ll continue to make improvements and invite users to suggest features they would like made available in WaterInsights,” Ian said.

Water data all in the one place

WaterInsights collates data from the Bureau of Meteorology, Murray Darling Basin Authority, Department of Planning and Environment, and from WaterNSW systems, so that it’s all in one place.

You can access data and information about:

  • Volumes in storage, used and traded
  • Water availability, allocation and account balances
  • Water quality data such as algal levels
  • River flows and levels
  • Historical data on dam and stream levels, water allocation and use
  • Rules and conditions that govern water management.

The data download experience is now faster and easier. WaterInsights can be accessed via mobile, tablet, or desktop so that information is available anytime and anywhere.

“Over the coming months, the functionality of our Real Time Data (RTD) website will reduce, as WaterNSW transitions focus and these features into WaterInsights,” Ian said.

“The data that is currently available on the RTD website will be made available on WaterInsights, often more quickly, and with better functionality.”
